Stanowiło to podstawę do sformułowania celu rozprawy doktorskiej. W części badawczej dokonano oceny wpływu rodzaju materiału konstrukcyjnego formy odlewniczej, grubości ścianki formy odlewniczej, czasu ogrzewania formy odlewniczej oraz temperatury w komorze grzejnej na przebieg procesu odlewania rotacyjnego i właściwości odlewu z liniowego polietylenu małej gęstości. Przedmiotem badań były trzy materiały metaliczne (stal niskowęglowa, mosiądz i aluminium) o różnej grubości ścianki formy odlewniczej (3 mm, 5 mm, i 8 mm). W pracy omówiono wyniki obliczeń numerycznych procesu odlewania rotacyjnego wykonanych w programie RotoSim. Analizowano proces odlewania rotacyjnego w warunkach rzeczywistych. Wykonano badania wybranych właściwości otrzymanych próbek odlewów. Prezentowane wyniki badań doświadczalnych dotyczyły właściwości mechanicznych, cieplnych, powierzchniowych i strukturalnych odlewu.
This dissertation presents the results of research on the rotational moulding of linear low-density polyethylene using moulds made of different metallic materials. The first part of the dissertation presents the current state of the art in rotational moulding process and factors affecting finished product properties. The state-of-the-art analysis is based on a review of previous studies, monographs, patent documentation, conference publications, as well as current offers from manufacturers of moulds and machines as well as polymeric materials for rotational moulding. Both advantages and disadvantages of this method are described, and the main sectors of application for finished product are presented. The following variables of the rotational moulding process affecting the finished product properties are considered in detail: the rotational speed of the mould, the time and temperature during heating and cooling of the mould, and the pressure in the mould cavity. This provides a basis for formulating the objective of the dissertation. The research part of the dissertation investigates the effects of mould material, mould wall thickness, mould heating time, and heating chamber temperature on the rotational moulding process and the properties of linear low-density polyethylene moulded parts. Moulds made of three different metallic materials (low-carbon steel, brass and aluminium) with three different wall thicknesses (3 mm, 5 mm, and 8 mm) are investigated. The dissertation discusses the results of numerical calculations of the rotational moulding process performed using the RotoSim software. The rotational moulding process is investigated under real conditions. Selected properties of moulded parts are examined. Obtained experimental results provide data about the mechanical, thermal, surface-related, and structural properties of moulded parts. The rotational moulding process of linear low-density polyethylene is then optimized by the Taguchi method for selected properties of moulded parts. The final part of the dissertation summarizes the results and presents final conclusions. It has been proven that variables of the rotational moulding process can be selected in such a way that the formation of defects in moulded parts made of linear low-density polyethylene is minimized, which prevents their properties from being reduced.
