The paper presents the estimation of the disbond effect influence on the strength of single lap adhesive joints. Numeri cal analysis of adhesive joints with introduced disbond zones by the finite element method was conducted. The state of stress and strain around disbond zones was analyzed. An algorithm for the construction of numerical models including the influence of defects in the disbond form was proposed. The static strength tests were performed in the experimental part. Disbond areas from 5 to 20% were analyzed. The samples were made from S235JR steel and epoxy adhesives Epidian57/Zl, Loctite 9466 AB and Loctite 9484AB were used. The experimental studies results were compared with the results of FEM simulations. Conducted destructive testing of adhesive joints with disbond zones showed a significant effect of disbond size and position on the strength of adhesive joints. A significant effect of materiał characteristics ofused adhesive was also shown. The results will allow to predict the static strength of adhesive joints with disbond defects.
